This review is from: Summer Infant Day & Night Baby Video Monitor with 5″ Screen – White (Baby Product)

We bought this monitor couple weeks ago and so far we are very happy with it. When we first set it up it interfered with our house phone and it was very static, but then we just changed the channel on the monitor and now it’s quiet and no interference. It’s nice to watch my baby while she sleeps and nice to hear her through the monitor if i’m in the kitchen. The little TV could be battery operated as well,if you have to take it with you somewhere (i take it downstairs to the laundry room,or it’s nice to have by when i’m gardening while my daughter is napping). I highly recommend it to everyone!
One thing though,it doesn’t “check” baby’s breathing, like some other monitors do.

I received this as a gift for my second baby. I was not really sure if it was something I really “needed”, but we borrowed the monitor we’d used for our first baby, so we needed something, and since we were given this, I figured I would try it out.
My son is 11 weeks old and I have been using this since the third night he was home from the hospital. I could not get any sleep w/ him in our room, and out of desperation put him in his crib in his own room that third night. I hooked up the monitor and loved the fact that I could see him as well as hear him.
I did have to adjust the channel to “C” instead of “A” because of interference, but once I adjusted it, there has been minimal interference.
My only complaint is that the volume is very loud, even on the lowest setting. I just need to barely be able to hear him since I sleep so lightly now that I have babies in the house. And the lowest setting for this is just too loud. I even taped over the volume holes on the bottom of the unit, but it did not help much.
However, it makes no difference to us now, because we just leave the sound off during the night, having just the video portion on. It works well for me since I can hear him if he starts fussing, and can see whether he is in need of me getting out of bed or am I just hearing him fuss for a minute and go back to sleep. I love it. It has saved me many trips of getting in and out of bed to check to see if he’s breathing or not. I can usually tell by staring at the monitor for a minute or two.
This device does not alert you if the baby stops breathing like some claim to do, but that was the type of monitor we used w/ our first son, and it was, in my opinion, just a gimmick. This is more trustworthy to me because I can see him w/ my own 2 eyes.
I recommend this to anyone who wants a simple device to use at night to ease your mind, and help you sleep! :-)

I have a slightly older 2006 version of this monitor and started noticing a buzzing noise at night coming from the transformer. It was getting very hot to the touch and then a week or so later it had a huge crack and the prongs were loose(on the monitor not the camera). So I called about getting a replacement since it is an obvious fire hazard. If this thing went it could burn down the house.
The number is 02180 on the bottom sticker. I called and they said they wouldn’t replace it, it was out of warranty and they have never had a recall! Kind of arrogant on the phone bad service. The part is $20. Anyway be careful. They sent me a new plug for Free after asking for a manager!

I just purchased this today and am going to return it tommorrow. I don’t mind the Black and White and I wasn’t too concerned with the CRT instead of the flat screen. The pic is pretty clear.. but there is a ton of static with the sound. The little lights in the front that should alert you (by going from green to red) to sound are always in the full red, even in a quite room, because of all the static. I suppose you get what you pay for. I am going to have to go with a more expensive model.

After reading reviews of seemingly every video monitor system on the market, it became apparent that they all have their fans and their detractors. I was afraid to spend too much money on something that might not work well, but I still wanted a “quality” device, so I opted for this one. I have to say I have been very pleasantly surprised. The picture is clear, and the sound doesn’t bother me at all — maybe because I live in the city and am used to noise, but to me it’s just a gentle white noise. Also, you can turn the sound off and just keep the picture (or vice versa) if you want. When my baby cries, the sound is crisp and clear. Basically, this monitor works exactly as advertised, nothing fancy, just an easy way to keep an eye on your baby at all times. I live in an apartment building and was worried about static and interference, but so far, none (I’ve been using it for about three weeks). Highly recommended.
