8:50 am on April 5th, 2010This review is from: Summer Infant Day & Night Baby Video Monitor Set with 5″ Screen and Extra Audio Unit (Baby Product)After buying and returning 4 different audio monitors and 1 video monitor I tried this one and loved it. The monitors I bought before this one all had great reviews, but got really bad reception in my house. The best advice when buying a monitor to realize that you may need to try it at home and take it back. What works for someone else might not work for you.
Why I LOVE this monitor:
1. I can keep the TV in the living room and the separate audio in the bedroom.
2. No interference or static, but it still picks up very quiet noises (in my house, but you might not be so lucky)
3. Having video is the way to go! It’s great to see what the kiddo is up to without having to go in the room. Especially great in a 2 story.
4. Decent size screen. I did try the more expensive handheld with a 2.5 inch screen, but if you set it down across the room you can’t really see the picture. Also that one happened to get bad reception in my home even though it was the same brand as this one.
5. Infared
6. Wireless (TV monitor doesn’t need to be wired to the camera like some old school video monitors)
7. Camera is easy to adjust to get a good angle.
8. I have used this in 3 other homes while traveling without any problems with the reception.
9. Great price. Some of the audio only monitors I bought were close to $100. This isn’t much more and comes with video!Cons:
1. The TV even the lowest setting is a little loud. I wish there was a lower volume without muting it. Although when you do mute it there are still lights that indicate the noise level so you still have a visual cue. The handheld audio monitor doesn’t have this problem.
2. A couple times (maybe 4 times in a 1 year period) when we turned the camera off, but left the TV on we saw the faint image of another baby in her crib. Kinda creepy that others might see your baby. However this kind of interference is common with all monitors.**************************************************************************************************************
Update:
So we’ve had this monitor about a year and it’s broken twice! The first time we had taken it on a trip to Grandma’s house and when we got home the video camera didn’t work. No, I wasn’t extra gentle with it while transporting it, but I wasn’t rough either. I don’t know how it broke. We exchanged it for a new one. Then today I had the video monitor turned on and when I went to lower the volume the thing gave me a little electric shock when I pushed the button. The TV then went out. Again, we exchanged it and discovered the AC adapter not the television monitor was busted. Weird. I still love the monitor and how it works for us, but I’ve had 2 lemons already! Come on!

Buy this product “Summer Infant Best View Handheld Color Video Monitor with 2.5″ Screen by Summer Infant, Inc.” instead – from the same company but a far superior offering for only a mere $60 more.
Sincerely

After buying and returning 4 different audio monitors and 1 video monitor I tried this one and loved it.
This isn’t much more and comes with video!
Cons:
However this kind of interference is common with all monitors.

Come on!
